FLU PEDS
OVERVIEW:
Flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and fatigue. Some people may also have vomiting and diarrhea, which is more common in children than adults. People may be infected with the flu and have respiratory symptoms without a fever.
Common Complaints:

Runny nose, body aches

Sore throat, cough
-
Congestion, fatigue
-
Sneezing, mild or low grade fever

Nausea, vomiting (non-stop vomiting, GO TO THE ER)
Initiate Pharmacology if Symptoms are less than 72 hrs:

Oseltamivir (Tamiflu)

Tylenol for fever, cough meds

NSAIDS as needed for body aches (if not contraindicated)
Recommend Ancillary therapies:

Intranasal steroids

Oral decongestant if not contraindicated

Saline irrigation
Flu vaccine yearly is recommended if not contraindicated (ask your local urgent care or your primary care provider for the Flu vaccines).
NB: Complications of flu can include bacterial pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections and worsening of chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes.
